An eco-friendly guest experience – digital entertainment in the hotel.

“Rethinking the balance between comfort and responsibility”

Digitalisation is bringing about noticeable changes to day-to-day hotel operations. At the same time, guests’ expectations are rising: content should be available at all times, have an international focus and be intuitive to use. Digital media offerings such as sharemagazines demonstrate how service quality and a resource-efficient approach can be meaningfully combined. A conversation with Aljoscha Althoff.

How sharemagazines enhances the guest experience, streamlines processes and enables sustainable solutions in the hospitality industry.

Digital media in hotels: added value for guests and operational efficiency.

Mr Althoff, why are digital media services becoming increasingly important in hotels?

Aljoscha Althoff: Digital services are now often an integral part of the guest experience – particularly in the upmarket segment. Guests expect immediate access to information and entertainment that goes beyond traditional offerings such as printed newspapers or in-room TV. Content should be available at all times and, ideally, accessible on their own devices. This is where sharemagazines comes in: we create a modern user experience for everyone.

In practical terms, what added value does sharemagazines bring to day-to-day hotel operations?

Aljoscha Althoff: A key advantage is the significant reduction in the workload associated with internal processes. Logistics, distribution and the reordering of printed media are largely eliminated. At the same time, hotels benefit from the fact that requirements – such as the provision of daily newspapers in classified establishments – can be managed digitally.

This offers guests clear added value: they can access content flexibly, whether at breakfast, in the lobby or in their room. In this way, we deliberately cater to the various ways in which the hotel is used and enhance the quality of the guest experience.

What role does a resource-efficient approach play in this context?

Aljoscha Althoff: Doing away with printed materials not only reduces paper consumption, but also streamlines numerous processes in hotel operations. At the same time, the range of services on offer remains up to date and widely available at all times.

For many hotels, this is an important step towards combining environmental responsibility with economic efficiency, without compromising on the guest experience.

How can hotels make effective use of digital media?

Aljoscha Althoff: We see sharemagazines as an integral part of the digital guest journey. Our solution can, for example, be integrated into existing hotel apps or digital guest folders.

Here’s a concrete example: using QR codes at key touchpoints in the hotel, guests can access the digital guest folder directly and, from there, move seamlessly onto the sharemagazines platform. In this way, we increase the overall use of digital services whilst simultaneously creating additional opportunities, such as for further offers or upselling.

The aim is always to make digital content available in a way that is intuitive for guests and integrated in a meaningful way.

How will this issue develop in the future?

Aljoscha Althoff: I think expectations will continue to rise, particularly with regard to personalisation and curated content. At the same time, it will be crucial to deliver digital services as seamlessly and user-friendly as possible.

We see great potential here to integrate digital media even more closely into the overall experience of a hotel stay and to tailor it to guests’ individual needs.
